Teachers should not bear pains of recession — NUT boss

Chairman, National Union of Teachers, NUT, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, Comrade A J Daggar Tolar, has called on state governors not to use the current recession as an excuse not to pay teachers’ salaries.
Comrade Tolar said this at an event organised by the chapter to commemorate 2016 World
Teachers Day tagged: “Valuing teachers- improving their status.” He lamented that 29 out of 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, were yet to pay the salaries of teachers.
He said: “This recession is felt more on workers, especially on teachers, who are owed salaries from six months to a year.”
While urging the government to invest more in public education, the union chairman said recession should be a time to alleviate the burdens of workers through investments.
